Cryptographers warn that a sufficiently capable fault-tolerant quantum computer running Shor’s algorithm could derive private keys from exposed public-key information. Bitcoin itself is not “broken”; the ownership signatures are the vulnerable layer. Developers cannot agree which post-quantum scheme should replace them.
